The N.C. Department of Transportation works on hundreds of projects across the state that offer substantial benefits to thousands of drivers every day. In late 2019, The North Carolina Board of Transportation adopted the 2020-2029 State Transportation Improvement Program, which consists of more than 1,700 projects across North Carolina (1,319 highway, 86 aviation, 234 bicycle and pedestrian, 6 ferry, 23 public transit, and 50 rail projects). These projects were identified through a data-driven scoring system called Strategic Prioritization.
